Malo Resort

5-star lakeside development with magnificent views

A chichewa term that translates as “space”, Malo’s expansive design engages guests from the moment of arrival, where a breathtaking panorama of pools and sinuous water features evokes a charming bay, drawing the eye towards to the glistening waters of Lake Malawi.

This the world’s fourth largest freshwater lake by volume, and the ninth largest by area, streching up to 580 kilometers in length and 75 kilometers at its widest point. It hosts a significant and unique mix of more than 1,000 species of fish and other shoreline wildlife.

Lake Malawi is the perfect place for our Malo Resort. On clear days you'll see Mozambique in the far and Tanzania a bit to the north. An abundance of fish, water sports and a fabulous experience overall. When you feel for an active vacation, hiking around the area is a true paradise. Malo Resort is the only resort on the beach and we share it with friendly fishermen and farmers coming down to the beach to sail out fishing or just take a cooling swim. Some drive from Lilongwe just to come and relax with their families and this is not the typical tourist destination you might be used to. This is rural. This is real. Real people, real people that will shine up with a great warm smile if you greet them. They might look curious at you, but soon you're in a conversation with a farmer, a policeman or, .. just anyone chatting along.

VILLAS WITH OUTDOOR GAZEBOS & PRIVATE PLUNGE POOLS

The rooms, suites and villas, numbering 309 in total, are angled to maximize the lake views from spacious timber balconies and decks. African motifs feature on the walls, furniture and decorative accents, creating a warm cosy appeal. All rooms offer dedicated work/live spaces and en suite bathrooms, while suites boast dining rooms and freestanding bathtubs.

Villas come with outdoor gazebos and private plunge pools.

CONTEMPORARY WORLD-CLASS DESIGN

Throughout the resort, vernacular design elements are harmoniously medled with contemporary, world-class interiors. The result is naturally ventilated indoor-outdoor areas, textured and organic surface finishes, and ethnic crafts and artworks that immerse guests in local culture and heritage, while sacrificing none of the mod-cons and creature comforts expected a five-star resort.

The continent remains relatively undeveloped with a low per capita income that translated into immense growth opportunities. Also by 2030, the UN estimates that sub-Saharan Africa will account for about half the increase in the global workforce.
